I Refuse To Hide From The Rain

The rain poured down around me—
a dampness I couldn’t escape;
An unexpected storm . . .

But I,
I danced in the rain.

No one saw it coming,
forecasters couldn’t explain;
It defied their understanding . . .

But I,
I danced in the rain.

Thunder cracked above me,
lightening left a stain,
streaking the sky with terror . . .

But I,
I danced in the rain.

Wet bullets pelted my body,
threatening to cause me pain;
Slashing and splashing around me . . .

But I,
I danced in the rain.

The wind whipped and whirled—
my face doused with ocean-like sprays,
as if tossed in turbulent waters . . .

But I,
I danced in the rain.

I danced like the whole world was watching.
I danced because I knew they were.
I danced because I knew my Partner;
We dipped, we jumped, we twirled!

And the storm that tried to drown me
eventually drifted away,
leaving me gleaming—

washed anew!

Because I,
I danced in the rain.
